Aboriginal Program

Condamine Alliance's Aboriginal program will meaningfully engage with the Traditional Custodians to provide advice and guidance to Condamine Alliance in managing natural resources and cultural heritage within the Condamine catchment.

Aims

  • To strengthen the meaningful participation, involvement and decision making of Aboriginal People in natural resource management issues within the Condamine catchment
  • To increase the meaningful involvement of Aboriginal people in the design, development and implementation of Aboriginal perspectives in natural resources management within the Condamine catchment
  • To improve the cultural heritage management practices by increasing the meaningful participation and involvement of Aboriginal people in the Condamine catchment
  • To improve the process for engaging Aboriginal people in the natural resource management, training and employment based on input from stakeholders in the Condamine catchment
  • To improve the pathways for Aboriginal People with regards to training and employment through the development of strong relationships and support with employers and employment agencies in the Condamine catchment

Strategies

  1. Meet with Traditional Owners, Aboriginal Community Groups and individuals through visits to discuss the process of engagement practices and the makeup of the current Traditional Owners Board arrangements
  2. Hold Meetings with Stakeholders and neighbouring groups (i.e. Queensland Murray Darling Committee, Burnett Mary Regional Group and South East Queensland Traditional Owners Alliance) regarding projects that are overlapping and/or combined responsibilities
  3. Run Workshops with Traditional Owners and Stakeholders regarding setting strategic directions and decision making for future planning of natural resources management within the Condamine Catchment area
  4. Development of projects that increase meaningful participation and  involvement
