The company was founded by five members of the Condamine community: DDRPAC (Local Government), Landcare, Toowoomba Regional Environment Council, Condamine Catchment Association and Condamine Balonne Water Committee. Following the amalgamation of councils in Queensland in 2008, DDRPAC ceased to exist and the Queensland government is finalising this process.
In March 2008, the Queensland government oversaw the amalgamation of 97 local government areas and 20 indigenous councils under a statewide reform process. Following this amalgamation, the reason for the existence of DDRPAC was deemed to be irrelevant and has been ceased.
Condamine Alliance (CA) is responsible for enabling the Condamine Catchment community to achieve sustainable natural resource management for their area. CA aims to protect and preserve for future generations the land, water and native plants and wildlife of the Condamine catchment.
Established as an initiative of the Federal government's National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP) and Natural Heritage Trust (NHT), the organisation now trades as a commercial entity.
Condamine Alliance, with support and input from stakeholders across the Condamine catchment, has prepared a Regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) Plan and Regional Investment Strategy. It is one of 15 regional bodies in Queensland and 56 Australia wide which are part of the regional arrangements between the Australian and state governments to deliver funds from the Caring for Our Country program , which seeks to deliver landscape change over key priority areas.
Condamine Alliance is well recognised by government, industry and agencies as a high performing Regional Body and is well placed to be an active participant in the delivery of the Caring for Our Country Program to achieve the outcomes desired to protect and improve the valuable natural assets of the Condamine catchment and significantly contribute to priorities under the new Program.
